The classic BBSHD upgrade: lighter, better chain line, less chain drop

The stock BBSHD chainring is a heavy steel stamping with a chain line that rarely suits a modern drivetrain. Swapping to the Lekkie 42T Bling Ring is one of the first upgrades most BBSHD owners make, and for good reason. It's machined from heat-treated 7075 T6 aluminum, so it weighs about a third as much as stock while keeping hard, long-wearing teeth.

Because it's your only front ring, it uses a narrow-wide tooth profile that grips the chain and practically eliminates chain drops, with thicker teeth for longer life.

Why 42 teeth?

Compared with the stock 44–46T ring, the 42T gives you a slightly lower gear. That means easier climbing, less strain on the motor on steep hills, and still plenty of top speed for commuting. It's the go-to size for most BBSHD builds.

What riders notice

• Better chain line: the 18.3mm offset pulls the chain toward the frame for quieter, smoother shifting.
• Fewer chain drops: narrow-wide teeth keep the chain on over rough ground.
• Big weight saving: 210g versus a much heavier steel stock ring.
• Clean look: anodized black CNC finish instead of a stamped ring and plastic guard.
